Private Music Instructor: Flute

The Suzuki Flute Method

The Suzuki method is a style of teaching developed by Shinichi Suzuki, a Japanese violinist. He realized that most children learn to speak their native language easily and applied the basic principles of language learning to music education, calling it the "mother-tongue approach." The ideas of parent responsibility, loving encouragement, and constant repetition are essential to the Suzuki approach.

My Background & Approach

As a Suzuki flute teacher, my goal is to have every student find joy in playing music, reach their potential through rigorous instruction, and use music as a way to embrace compassion, persistence, and self-expression.

I teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and welcome children, age 3 and older, and adult amateurs. I have experience working with autistic adults and children and gladly accept any student with disabilities. No matter your age, level, background, or ability, we will work together to develop a Suzuki-based curriculum that is best suited for you.

I speak English and Spanish and provide lessons in both languages.

Curriculum Designer: Music

My Background

I studied Classical Music: Flute Performance at the Mannes School of Music at The New School and have worked professionally in music education as a teaching artist since 2016. Storyteller & Writer: Children’s Media

My Background

While developing the concept and business of Art Beyond the Ink, a mentor said to us, “You want to use music to tell stories? Well, then everything you do needs to be a story — from your curriculum to your marketing to your fundraising.” Since that defining piece of advice, that’s what I have set out to do! My children’s media writing experience includes:

  • developing and writing short films inspired by music and its naunced, emotional arc

  • writing short stories to teach music for both individual workshops and collective workbook formats

  • using children’s art, ideas, and craft projects to write and publish picture books, lookbooks, zines, and micro-short animations

  • co-leading the creation of a TV series

    • concept development

    • episode and script writing

    • pitching to networks
