Hearing and Seeing Musical Stories: The Story-Filled Tool for Understanding What You Hear
Art Beyond the Ink’s original music storytelling workbook introduces children to what we call “musical choices” (the general music theory concepts) through a series of short stories. They will explore music spanning several genres and cultures, including classical, jazz, Brazilian Choro, Irish folk and more. The book features over 20 listening examples and exercises in drawing, writing and even moving!
We wrote this book as a tool to help children understand why they hear what they hear, and what musical characteristics contribute to the story. An understanding of the “vocabulary” behind musical stories is the same vocabulary needed to express and relate to how one is feeling; deepening engagement with music allows for improved listening skills, as well as enhanced self-expression and the development of a personal narrative.

LysolⓇ Minilabs Science Kit
These science kits designed by The GIANT Room and donated to 9,000 Title I classrooms across the United States by LysolⓇ teach the science of microbes and healthy hygiene habits. The kits include a student journal with graphic novel chapters, in-class activities, take-home games, stickers, microbe ID trading cards, lesson plans, lesson slides, creative mission videos, craft materials, and additional online resources. The content of the kit was co-designed by students and teachers, bringing their voices into the design process.
PROJECT ROLES
Project Manager
The first year of the kit production I managed the design process, coordinating with large corporate teams to ensure on time and high quality deliverables, including pitching the designs to the Lysol project heads.
Writer
I helped write the graphic novel chapters of the student journal, the student activity checklists, and video scripts.
Designer
I lead the design of all print items in the kit, including the student journal and microbe ID cards, collaborating with the McCann design studio who created the initial design guideines. I also helped designed the content and activities of the curriculum.
